6 Tips for a more productive week!


We, as human beings, have to play several roles during 24 hours a day. We are spouses, parents, students, relatives, colleagues, professionals, hosts, guests, helper, and sometimes only ourselves. Each role has some duties and obligations attached to it; managing which are so important to keep the relationship/role alive. Spending a week that looks after every role nicely is surely a week well spent.
 TIP 1: WRITE IT DOWN TO REMEMBER:
Our mind has great powers to juggle up all these roles nicely; but, occasionally, depending on it too much to remember hundreds of small details related to various roles backs fire. We miss deadlines, forget about our appointment with doctor, get late for friend’s wedding, and fail to recall our spouse’s birthday. Why is that? Because, we don’t write it down. Writing appointments down liberates you from the exertion to memorize every date and deadline by heart.

TIP 2: PLAN AHEAD:
Nothing compares to the peace of mind when you know an event is approaching and you have prepared for it already. Before the week starts, you should exactly know all the activities that you’ll be carrying out the next week. It doesn’t mean you should map every second; rather, aim should be to accomplish all the important tasks followed by the duties that have long been pending. I like to have a monthly calendar as it gives me the liberty to get organized for the whole month.
TIP 3: USE CALENDAR TO GET ORGANIZED:
Calendars, now for years, have been keeping people on track. Just a glimpse at week’s chore gives you fair idea as to what to expect that particular week and also how to plan for it in advance.
Majority of electronic gadgets provide you flexibility of keeping track of your appointments through calendars and To-do lists apps etc. But for me, my paper and pen are the best tools I need to plan my week. I feel, scheduling my next week’s activities by writing them on paper gets me motivated more than typing them on a word document.
TIP 4: USE ONLY ONE CALENDAR:
Once you choose a calendar that resonates with your personality; don’t add another calendar into loop no matter how tempting it might feel. I have done this mistake in the past and trust me it leaves you wandered. U keep referring to multiple places and duplication of posting a task on several calendars takes away your productive time.
Promise yourself to stick to one calendar no matter what. Make it a habit to refer to it before night to do necessary planning for next day and every morning to recall that day’s important doings.
TIP 5: USE COLORS
It doesn’t mean using a fancy and colorful calendar for week planning – though a pretty calendar motivates me to keep in continuous touch with my calendar. Using colors basically means to designate specific inks for particular kind of tasks. For example, for financial matters use green, for important appointments/ follow-ups use red, for birthdays use yellow, for personal appointments use pink, for office related matters use blue and so on. In this way, a bird eye view of calendar will be enough to stay in control.
TIP 6: REFER TO YOUR CALENDAR BEFORE & AFTER  
Before making a new appointment, check for your availability by referring to your calendar. Otherwise, you might end up having two places to visit at the same time. Don’t agree to a date unless you are sure about your availability. If, for some reason, an appointment gets cancelled, immediately update your calendar to make room for new activities.
